The Advanced Photonics Research laboratory (APRL), headed by Associate Professor Guy Bartal, aims to explore, demonstrate and utilize sub-wavelength optical phenomena. We are most interested in enhancing existing microscopy techniques and developing new ones; designing and fabricating optical metamaterials and layered structures, capable of pushing the limits of light confinement; achieving new means of controlling light on a sub-wavelength level; and examining optical nonlinear processes in the near-field, while finding new applications for them. Currently, we are expanding our interests to near-field light-matter interactions, both in the quantum and classical regimes, and to topological nano-photonics.

We are generously funded by the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) and the Russel Berry Nanotechnology Institute (RBNI).

Research topics:

  • Nonlinear nano-photonics
  • Topological nano-photonics
  • Super-resolution microscopy
  • Optical metamaterial design
